Poling talked about the help she received from two people in particular. “My family, my brothers and my mom, asked me questions every night to help me get ready for the competition.” Poling’s family, along with others, helped her in different ways. “The amount of support I have received from not ust my family but also my friends and the entire community in Clayton, and also in Dalhart, has been so beneficial.” Poling gushed about the amount of support she has received. “Having the directors guide me into becoming a better role model for little girls.” “The thing I’m looking forward to the most is the opportunities that will come from this.” Poling said.

Poling is looking forward to that, and in particular wants to influence the next generation. The XIT Rodeo Queen helps promote XIT throughout the year, riding in parades around Texas and surrounding states with the XIT directors and appearing at other events as well. “It was like a dream come true.” Poling said. Poling was naturally thrilled when she heard her name called as XIT queen. The judges are given those point totals to add to the points from the contest. Along with being judged on their horsemanship and poise and answers, the contestants are also awarded points by the XIT directors based on their participation in helping out with the rodeo and reunion. The three contestants were allowed to perform a freestyle pattern on horseback as well. Reigning queen Kaylee Mitchell performed a pattern first that each of the contestants was expected to duplicate, and then each contestant rode up to the fence and answered some questions about horses and horsemanship from the judges.

Each contestant is asked a series of questions by the judges, on topics such as the history of the XIT ranch, the names and jobs of the XIT directors, and the various events of the actual rodeo, while the others are kept someplace where they can’t hear each other’s answers.Īfter answering those series of questions, the contestants go out to the arena for the horsemanship portion of the competition. Clift and Unruh are both students at Stratford High School. There were three candidates, Poling, Clift and Sam Unruh. The XIT Rodeo Queen contest was held in the morning on Thursday August 5. Poling is on a high school rodeo team and competes in jackpots as well.

She does compete in rodeo herself, doing barrels, poles and breakaway. She shows horses as well, and pole vaults during track and field season.īeing able to ride a horse well is a big part of being the XIT Rodeo Queen, and Poling said she has been riding horses even before she could walk. Poling also plays basketball, and is one of the captains of her high school team. She is a member of the FFA, and is currently the Parliamentarian of her chapter in Clayton. Poling lives in Clayton, New Mexico and attends Clayton High School. Poling is 16-years old and is the daughter of Todd and Honey Poling, and has three brothers, Tucker, Bo and Levi.
